Supporting Communities

Businesses have a responsibility to wider society. At Compass Group, we have built strong ties with the local community, particularly by supporting charities that are important to our people. We challenge ourselves to raise at least €25,000 for Irish charities every year.

However, perhaps more important than just raising funds for a broad variety of partner charities, we’ve empowered our people to lend their expertise and time to making a difference in our local communities.

Local Schools

Compass involvement in Local Community with Schools

In November 2015, our HR Director and Paolo Armani, our Learning and Development chef, began work in the local community with two schools in West Dublin.

We introduced the ‘Compass Healthy Starts’, a programme for 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th classes. Week 1 involves cooking with the children, week 2, 3 and 4 involves working with the children & their parents; showing them how to cook on a low budget, shopping locally and producing meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The focus is on teaching parents to cook and teaching the kids the importance of good food compared to processed food and includes classes on sugar, salt and food tasting.

We have now extended this programme to cover schools in Kildare, Wicklow and Kilkenny. This is one of the many ways that Compass gives a little back to the Community.

Temple Street Foundation

Playing our part to fight obesity – Temple Street Foundation

Ireland is set to become the most obese country in Europe within a decade – it is a problem for all segments of our society. As a food company, we felt it was vitally important to play our part in educating people in the workplace and specifically families on how to healthily enjoy food and reduce fatty food consumption.

In 2016, we announced an exciting partnership with Temple Street Foundation, the charity of Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. Our partnership will also see Compass Group bringing its culinary expertise to its W82GO programme – set up to provide families with guidance and a safe environment to help them achieve the healthiest lifestyle possible. For the first-time families of W82GO will now be able to participate in a tailored cookery session, providing practical guidance and support around food preparation and cooking.
